When I paint canvases, I don’t really have any plan. Often I just decide I’d like to try something out, I might just go outside and start doodling with a can of paint or try an effect out that I have been thinking about. They are very much experimental, often getting painted over and over dozens of times, which adds to the ruggedness of them. Sometimes it is the case that I come across an image and I “think I’d like to paint that”. In the wintertime, when I don’t want to paint outside, I often spend the dark evenings painting small canvases in acyrilic.
