CANVAS

In my career, I have seen a huge shift in attitudes towards graffiti as art. My paintings on canvas are a real reflection of this process. I started painting on canvases around 2003 to provide a legal format for me to continue painting after my arrest. Many of these canvases have been painted and repainted numerous times in the same way as a wall might be. For me as an artist, the value of the canvas was not the work upon it, but the practice the surface provided for me.

LETTERS ON CANVAS

My name is my subject matter. The many facets to my personality and inspirations are my theme. To quote 123 Klan “Style is the message”.

Over the course of decades, the need to paint in high detail and at small scale that canvases require to be viewed at close proximity, became a key feature of my work in aerosol as spray paint is easier to use at a larger scale. Many of my subjects on canvas are painted at a fraction of the size that they would traditionally be painted on the street.

NATURE ON CANVAS

Nature is a big source of inspiration for me. I often paint natural forms on canvas and utilise colour palettes found in nature. Rain and water features heavily in my work as it adds as much texture, life and movement to a painting as it does to the natural environment.

PORTRAITS ON CANVAS

Portraits at small scale on canvas are not an easy thing to achieve with aerosol, I have spent years developing techniques and methods to painting freehand portraits in aerosol at small scale order to hone my skills as a mural artist.
